I used to have a teacher that was always mean, bitter, etc. I would find out what their hobbies were, what they did for spare time, and talk to them about it. Then after they started becoming more friendly to me, I started joking with them and they really turned the corner and were in a better mood.
When they started to get in a bad mood again, I would ask “Do you need a hug” and that would always bring a smile or laughter from them.

Yikes, good luck with that one. Do you know why this teacher is mean? Personality, troubles outside of school, unruly class? Before you start a revolution, you may want to find the reason for this “mean” behavior. And, the best way to do this would be to go to the principal–he or she can talk to the teacher. The kids doing it would be out of place, after all, the principal is her boss.

Actually the first place to start is to examine the behavior of your class! and BE HONEST!!!
I’m sure your teacher has rules for the classroom. Is EVERYONE following them?
Do students get on task quickly? or is there chatting and sillyness instead?
Are there one or two students who continuously try to play the fool in class to get everyone’s attention? do the others participate in that nonsense?
My bet is that the revolution that needs to take place is for your students to start acting like real students who are interested in learning.
Start there and see what happens before you do anything else.
