My wife is a teacher and tells me all the time that some of her parents think good parenting is only making sure they have shoes on and are fed. Other parents are concerned with the emotional and social development of children, striving for goals, etc. Why do some parents look at immediate needs while others look towards the future? Is there a difference in who will become which type and are certain people bound to parent a certain way?

For example, the ability to give ratings things like Movies (sexual content, bad language, violence, etc.). And you could say you don't mind bad language, per se, so rate that low like a 1 but *** and violence are not acceptable in your home so you rate a 10 and then get customized recommendations for what movies fit the bill for YOUR family.

That is a random example, but what do you want on a parenting site?

Why is it that the law requires people to take parenting classes before they become a foster parent, but..
When a couple is expecting a biological child, the law doesn't require them to take any classes.

That sounds one-sided to me; shouldn't all soon-to-be-parents be held to the same standards?

My and I have 2 children and things were going okay until recently and it has occured to me that we need a very detailed parenting plan that we are legally obligated to follow.

Does it cost money to have an arbiter help us with the matter? Who do I talk to, what do I do? I need help ASAP
He is my ex boyfriend, we were neer married The oldest is not his biological child but I am going to treat it as shs is, regardless of legal advantage to my side, because he has been taking care of her for 5 years.

It seems like, in most cases, this should be correctable or prevented with proper parenting.

Overly fearful, as in, vehemently refusing to unattach himself from your leg. A child who is, perhaps, overly spoiled and cannot bare being more than an inch away from it's mother/father is not showing ideal behavior. The parent would be frustrated and severly inhibited.

Maybe the child in my example has 'problems' but, more often than not, do you think it is the parenting that caused it?

please list the main aspects of good parenting and please be specific. In other words what are the most important things needed to raise a well adjusted, confident, respectful, responsible, caring, and independent person who generally makes good choices and has a desire to do good things in life?

Do you feel which choice of punishment is the deciding factor or is that just something people say to stress their desired choice of punishment? Do you think as long as there is consistent, effective discipline then that is what counts or do you strongly feel that there is one type of punishment that without it a child would grow up terrible regardless of any other parenting aspects?
The reason I asked this is because I am shocked at the number of people on here who seem to believe that if you don't ***** your child will be a brat. Then there are always about 10-15 people who agree and say people who don't are "pansies", lazy and will have children that are brats. SO it astonishes me that so many people actually think ******** is going to make or break a child. As if nothing else matters, if you don't spank, you're doomed LOL

I know so many children who ARE ******* that are terrible brats who go out of their way to act up. I also know my own 4 boys have never been ******* and are all well behaved. I just wonder what leads people to this conclusion that ******** is so necessary and I wanted to see if people rerally feel that way or if it's just what people to say to stress their view on it.
